How Diet Affects Your Health

Now its time to continue on from my last post Fitness Exercise Equipment, where I looked at fitness exercise equipment and how it should be used thoughtfully to enhance your exercise routines and improve health, fitness, strength and stamina. here I’m going back to the food angle, by looking at how diet affects your health.

health and fitnessIt may come as no surprise to many people that if you eat the wrong kinds of food your health will be negatively affected. Duh!

But then you look around and see perfectly normal, intelligent people stuffing their faces with absolute crap! Now does this mean that they are doing it deliberately and have a couldn’t care less attitude? or is it that far too many people are not as clued up as they think they are on what is good food and what is bad food?

Well, let’s see what we can do to highlight some of the bad foods that might be concealed as ok foods.

Walk around any supermarket and just observe what people are putting into their shopping trolleys and it’ll give you a clue as to what might be considered acceptable and what is not. It astounds me that an army of caring mothers are walking around the aisles and grabbing handfuls of frozen ready meals, pizzas, formed and breaded frozen chicken (allegedly, at least) shapes, packs opf frozen vegetables… hey, a pattern seems to be forming here!

Why do people buy so much frozen pre-packed food? Do they think it is good for them?

Oh boy, how wrong can people be!

The vast majority of frozen food with the exception of maybe a few vegetables like peas or sweetcorn, have a lot of unhealthy additives in there that people don’t take any notice of. There is also a load of salt and sugar in many pre-packed, pre-processed and ready to eat out of the packet meals. This will play havoc with your blood sugar levels and blood pressure, not to mention all the nasty bad fats that are lurking in some products. Things like hydrogenated vegetable oil which is used as a thickening agent in many processed foods, is really bad for colhesterol levels.

Then you see people buying those massive multi-packs of potato chips that are laden with fats, salt and monosodium glutamate (oh bring on that stomach cancer forming ingredient!) for their kids to wolf down. How caring is that?

And to wash it all down? Yep, sweet fizzy drinks like certain colas, or other flavoured delights that are either full of sugar and additives or no sugar and artificial sweeteners that are considerably more dangerous in the long term than sugar will ever be. Failing that, there are also some nice aspartame laced artificially flavoured cordials laced with artificial colours to make your kids hyperactive as an alternative.

Ok, I’m being sarcastic, but as for it being the lowest form of wit, it does a nice job of getting my point across to anyone with the intelligence to see it staring them in the face.

  1. [...] from my last post How Diet Affects Your Health , here is a look at one of the great opportunities for slimming in the form of an easy option pill [...]

  2. Yeah, you’re absolutely right. And I always feel a little guilty when I read such articles, cause I use to do that too, although not so radically as you describe :)
